Local Evidence and feedback

Community Survey – Feedback to date

Our survey remains open, so it’s not too late to take part. You can read the responses so far below (link below to download the document).

Youth Survey – feedback to date

The Youth Council helped to prepare a survey to find out what young people in the area think. You can have a look at the responses here:

Design Guidance for the area: We have received Government funding to help us prepare detailed Design Guidance for the town and wider area. A consultancy called AECOM are going to be assisting us on this. The AECOM team visited Borehamwood in February 2023 and were given a tour of the area by members of the Steering Group.

We will be working closely with them over the next few months to consider the local character of Borehamwood, Elstree and Elstree Village and how any new development proposals in our area should reflect and enhance this. The guidance they help us to produce will also promote high quality design and ensure that proposals are encouraged to be sustainable and help mitigate climate change.

We anticipate receiving a first draft of the document in May 2023.

Understanding our Local Housing Needs: There is likely to be further development in our area. Where new homes are built, we want to make sure that they are the right sort to meet the needs of our residents. For instance, we might want to influence the size of new homes or the tenure (whether they are to rent or to buy). We might also want to make sure new homes are accessible and meet the needs of different age groups. Finally, we need to think about how we can deliver more affordable homes.

At the moment, housing need is considered at the District level but the specific needs of areas like ours can get lost in the data. The Steering Group has therefore commissioned a Local Housing Needs Assessment for our neighbourhood area (which comprises Borehamwood, Elstree village and Elstree – west of the railway line). It was prepared at no cost to the Town Council as it was funded via Government grants.
